CACS has sponsored this unique community science and stewardship program since 1984. Citizen volunteers adopt a section of the Kachemak Bay shoreline and walk it annually, surveying changes, collecting data on marine life and human impacts, and cleaning up beach litter and marine debris.

Twenty years of effort are summarized in the 2004 20th Anniversary CoastWalk Newsletter.

The 24th CoastWalk is being held during the period September 9-30, 2008, with the theme of Promoting the Coastal Code: Clean Beaches Depend on Everyone. CoastWalk sponsors include the Ocean Foundation's Coastal
CODE fund supported by donations on sales by the Alaskan Brewing Company
and NOAA's Community-based Marine Debris Clean-up and Prevention Grant
