ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR- 3 positions.
April-May. Peterson
Bay Coastal Science Field Station across Kachemak Bay from Homer,
Alaska, and the NOAA/University of Alaska marine lab facility in
Kasitsna Bay. Residential instructor/group leader for Alaska
Coastal Ecology Program field trips and activities for school
groups, grades 4-12. Duties include instruction. leading beach and
forest hikes, stocking and maintaining salt water aquaria, and performing
routine maintenance of the Field Station facility. Educational programs
are well-developed and supported but provide opportunities for creativity
and flexibility. Field sites include Kachemak Bay, rocky intertidal
areas of outstanding diversity,a coastal forest trail system, and
salt and freshwater wetlands. Requires knowledge of basic intertidal,
marine, and forest ecology; experience instructing and organizing
school groups or children, good physical condition, and ability
to live in a residential situation with school groups and other
staff. $1,300 - $1,500/mo. + housing.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT. Half-time
in April - May, full-time June - August. Assists with program support
for school field trip programs and summer tours, hikes, and children's
programs, publicity, and volunteer and membership coordination.
Requires good organizational skills, experience working with the
public, and computer skills with spreadsheets, databases, and graphics
programs. Website design and maintenance skills preferred. $10/hour
+ housing stipend.
SUMMER PROGRAM COORDINATOR. June-August. Peterson
Bay Coastal Science Field Station. Leads natural history tours,
coordinates day-to-day programs and scheduling, supervises and assists
with training staff, and provides oversight management of the semi-remote
field station facility. Requires content knowledge in marine/intertidal
ecology, experience as an interpreter or instructor foir diverse
audiences and as a program manager, and team leadership skills.
Alaska or similar experience and experience stocking and maintaining
saltwater aquaria preferred. $1750/mo. + housing.
NATURALIST
- Peterson Bay Field Station.
June-August. Leads interpretive
hikes and activities for diverse groups and develops and co-leads
educational programs for children. Designs and develops educational
displays and interpretive programs. Assists with training and coaching
of interns and volunteers and with routine maintenance of facilities
and trails. Requires relevant knowledge base in forest ecology and
in intertidal and marine ecology, and experience as an instructor
or interpreter. $1500/month DOE + on-site housing.
NATURALIST
- Wynn Nature Center. 2 positions, one
full-time and one part-time, June-August. Leads interpretive
hikes and activities for diverse groups and develops and co-leads
educational programs for children. Designs and develops educational
displays and interpretive programs. Assists with training and coaching
of interns and volunteers and with routine maintenance of facilities
and trails. Requires relevant knowledge base in forest ecology and
in intertidal and marine ecology, and experience as an instructor
or interpreter. $1500/month DOE + on-site housing.
NATURALIST INTERN - Wynn
Nature Center. June-August.
Gains skills and experience to lead Wynn natural history hikes and
tours and participate in a research or environmental education project.
Energetic, creative individuals needed with academic background
in botany and forest ecology with field courses preferred; and some
experience with teaching or interpretation. $1200/month + on-site
housing.
NATURALIST INTERN- Peterson
Bay Field Station. June-August. Gains
skills and experience to lead Peterson Bay natural
history hikes and tours and participate in a research or environmental
education project. Requirements: academic background in botany, forest
ecology (and/or marine or intertidal ecology for Peterson Bay position)
with field courses preferred; some experience with teaching or interpretation,
and the maturity to live and work in group situations. $1200/month
+ on-site housing. Applicants must also apply to the Alaska Conservation
Foundation Internship Program www.akcf.org.
If accepted, airfare to Alaska will be covered by the ACF Internship
Program.
