Gull Island
Gull Island is a small rocky inlet on the southern shore of Kachemak Bay, Alaska. More than 16,000 seabirds nest on this natural sanctuary.
Gull Island is one of the most viewable seabird colonies in Alaska, and every year thousands of people visit the island by boat to witness the spectacle of nesting seabirds. Since 1995, research biologists from the Alaska Biological Sciences Center, USGS, have been conducting research on the island as part of a larger study of seabirds and marine ecosystems.

Eight different seabird species call Gull Island home during the summer months:
- Pelagic Cormorants
- Red-faced Cormorants
- Horned Puffins (pictured on right)
- Blacklegged Kittiwake
- Common Murre
- Glaucous-winged Gulls
- Tufted Puffins
- Pigeon Gillemots
